Review - Grill Fanatics Quebracho Blanco Charcoal
A game changer for heat, flavour and longevity
First Impressions
My first bag of this charcoal was accidental. The shop where I was buying from had run out of my regular brand and suggested I give this a go. The price was decent compared to other premium brands and the unwaxed paper bag is an environmentally sound feature.
Operation
Quebracho is known for few sparks, easy lighting, good heat and a mild smoke profile. What I hadn't expected on top of all of this was the efficiency. It shouldn't be possible for something that burns so hot to burn for so long. The efficiency of this means that after cooking for three or so hours on a kamado, I can shut down the vents and have nearly half the charcoal left for another cook. Of course this means that I buy less of this charcoal than I would have bought from other brands, making it an instant favourite. Because it burns so efficiently, there is also less ash after every cook, making cleanups and dispoal much easier.
Conclusion
While I still use other charcoals (almost exclusively from Grill Fanatics these days), this one is my go-to as it is efficient and a great all-rounder. If you want something you can re-use in a kettle or kamado, or a long lasting base fire in an offset, I've yet to encounter better.
